  • Newborn’s fingernails need to be trim more than once in a week, though toenails requires less trimming.
  • The best time to cut baby’s nails is while they are sleeping or after the baby’s bath when nails are soft and tender.
  • Always use baby nail grooming products, do not use adult nail cutters as you may end up cutting finger or toe tip in place of nails.
  • It is best to use emery board for first few weeks of new born baby’s life, as it is the safest way to trim nails.

Ensure that in room you have enough lighting and have good amount of time for cutting your baby’s nails. Even if finger tip does cut, do not panic and do not be hard on yourself. Just rinse the cut under running water and hold it with a tissue of clean cloth for couple of minutes, the blood with stop itself. Do not apply antiseptic, the baby may put his finger into his mouth, also do not put band aid as it may choke his throat. You may consult a doctor, if bleeding doesn’t stop and you are not comfortable in cutting the nails for the first time.
